When talking about our new founding member, my emotions run high. It’s not just because she’s a trailblazer, exceptionally talented, gritty, and accomplished beyond measure. It’s the hard battle she fought, the barriers she shattered, that truly move me.. So what does “hard” mean? Let me paint a picture for you.

Hard is having the audacity to stand alone, the lone female amongst thousands of football players, coaches, trainers, and execs. Where, not only are you putting yourself in a vulnerable position but you’re doing it to pave the way for so many other females. Welcome Dr. Jen Welter, you are a fearless fighter, and an undeniable leader. The first female coach in the NFL. We admire you.

I could spend hours talking to and about Jen, her story is more than fascinating, it’s a testament to bravery and boundless stamina. Not only was she the first female coach in the NFL, and a coach in the XFL, but she also played professionally herself for many years. Which means she knows this game, I mean really knows the game. With two gold medals from world championships, she is a true athlete in her own right.

The most awe inspiring part of it all, is that when Jen witnessed the challenges her players faced, she didn’t stop at physical coaching. She pursued her doctorate in sports psychology because she understands that a players mental well being is as crucial as their physical prowess. Something that some coaches and leaders fail to see or acknowledge.

But wait, there’s more! One of my favorite aspects of Jen’s journey is her creation of GRRRIDIRON GIRLS, a platform that imparts confidence and empowerment for girls through football.
